2019 Claudio Levantini Trophy - Chess Tournament for blind and visually-impaired players

The Claudio Levantini Tournament is an international friendly, direct-elimination chess tournament, set up in memory of an ASCID coach and passionate player, who recently passed away.

The tournament is reserved for blind and visually-impaired players of any nationality and category.
The spirit of the tournament is friendly and aims to allow weaker players to compete with the strongest at least once.

In this first edition there are no referees, except for the final round.
(If anyone is interested in volunteering, we would welcome referees for other rounds besides the last one.) Any disputes that may arise will be resolved by the tournament director, Mr. Massimo Maccaferri.

1 - The tournament takes place at the rate of one round per month, with direct elimination. Tournament is without ELO variation..

2 - Pairings and game record:

Pairings: These will be established by the third day of the month:
the strongest with the least strong. The lower-rated player will have the white pieces. White has the responsibility of contacting their opponent and arranging a date and time, and then communicating what has been agreed upon to the Tournament Director. Failure to do so will result in automatic elimination.

Game Record: The moves will be recorded by both players and will be announced in the common language agreed upon between the players. If there is no agreement, the moves will be announced in GERMAN.
The moves are enunciated aloud by the player and repeated aloud from the other. The moves thus enunciated and confirmed will be valid.

In the event that the players’ boards do not agree due to incorrect positioning of the pieces, the two players will stop the time and rebuild the position according to their game records.

   3. Each game will last 90 minutes and must be played by the 15th of the current month. Since there is no referee, the responsibility of the clock is assigned to the player with the highest Elo. It is the higher-rated player’s responsibility to activate the clock for both players and communicate the correct time to their opponent when requested.

  4. In the case of a draw, each player will face their opponent a second time with the pieces of the opposite color, by the 25th of the month. In case of further draws, the player with the lowest ELO will move on to the next round.

   5. Only the winners will move on to next round.

   6. Obviously, the tournament can only takes place if the participants will be in multiples of two (4, 8, 16, 32, etc.), so in the first round there will be a repechage among the defeated players, as necessary, to reach the desired multiple of total participants. The repechaged players will be chosen at random.

  7. Each result must be communicated promptly, by the WINNER, to the tournament director, Mr. Massimo Maccaferri, cc’ing the defeated player, and Mr. Andrea Gori. If the winner does not send the result, he will be eliminated to the benefit of the defeated player.
At the end of each month, new pairings will be generated and sent to everyone.

   8. The final and semi-final rounds will be played to the best of two games. So, if after the first two games the result is draw, two more games will be played and so on.

   9. Admissions must be sent to the e-mail address of the tournament director, writing name, surname, nationality, e-mail address, ELO (international preferred, or national otherwise) and skype address by December 31, 2018. Players without a rating will be assigned a default ELO of 1000 for the purposes of pairing.

   10. For questions and concerns, please write to the tournament director, Mr. Massimo Maccaferri, who will be helped in his decisions by a technical team composed of CM FIDE Andrea Gori. The decisions of the TD are final. The TD can adjust these rules, if necessary.

The wife of the late Claudio Levantini, Ms. Michela Marcato, has donated a new magnetic chessboard which is handmade by an Italian craftsman, and has a commercial value of about 200.00 Euros. This board will be embossed with the words "To <>, the winner of the 2019 Claudio Levantini Trophy Chess Tournament", and sent to the winner's home address

Come back, Reviens, Torna indietro.
